Description
A delicious and easy recipe for making crispy homemade mozzarella sticks that are perfect for snacking or as an appetizer.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 2 cups breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the mozzarella sticks by cutting the cheese into uniform sticks.
- Set up a breading station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
- Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.
Notes
- Freezing the mozzarella sticks helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
- For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture.
- These can also be baked in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for a healthier option, but they won’t be as crispy.
