Description

A delicious and easy recipe for making crispy homemade mozzarella sticks that are perfect for snacking or as an appetizer.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound mozzarella cheese, cut into sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare the mozzarella sticks by cutting the cheese into uniform sticks.
  2. Set up a breading station with three bowls: one for flour, one for beaten eggs, and one for breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  3. Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat with the breadcrumb mixture.
  4. Place the breaded mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet and freeze for at least 30 minutes to firm up.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Fry the mozzarella sticks in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Serve hot with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • Freezing the mozzarella sticks helps prevent the cheese from melting too quickly while frying.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes to the breadcrumb mixture.
  • These can also be baked in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for a healthier option, but they won’t be as crispy.
