- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 to 4 tablespoons milk
- Royal icing for decoration
- Food coloring for icing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass, dipped in sugar.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
- Let cool on wire racks.
- Decorate with royal icing and food coloring once cooled.
Notes
- For best results, chill the dough for 30 minutes before rolling.
- Use different colors of icing to create vibrant designs.
- Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
