Description

A delicious fusion of croissants and donuts, homemade cronuts are flaky, sweet, and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm milk, water, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, softened butter, and egg to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth. Cover and let it rise for 1 hour.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and fold it to create layers. Chill for 30 minutes.
  6. Roll out the dough again and cut into donut shapes.
  7. Heat oil in a deep pan and fry the cronuts until golden brown on both sides.
  8. Drain on paper towels and dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the oil is hot enough before frying to avoid soggy cronuts.
  • Experiment with different fillings like cream or jam.
  • Serve fresh for the best texture and flavor.
