Description

A delightful cake that combines the flavors of orange and cream, reminiscent of the classic creamsicle treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the orange juice, orange zest, and vanilla extract.
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  7. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  10. In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar until soft peaks form.
  11. Once the cakes are cool, spread whipped cream between the layers and on top of the cake.
  12. Garnish with additional orange zest if desired.

Notes

  • For a stronger orange flavor, add more orange zest.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Serve chilled for a refreshing dessert.
