Description

Delightful candied yams enriched with butter and warm cinnamon, creating a sweet and comforting side dish perfect for holidays and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 yams or sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel and slice the yams into even rounds, about half an inch thick.
  3. Arrange the sliced yams in a baking dish, layering them neatly.
  4. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until combined.
  5. Pour the butter-sugar mixture over the yams.
  6. Add water around the edges of the dish.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30-40 minutes.
  8. Uncover and return to the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  9. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

You can peel and slice the yams a day prior to prevent oxidation. Consider adding crushed nuts for extra texture.
