- 4 yams or sweet potatoes, peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and slice the yams into even rounds, about half an inch thick.
- Arrange the sliced yams in a baking dish, layering them neatly.
- Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat, then stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and salt until combined.
- Pour the butter-sugar mixture over the yams.
- Add water around the edges of the dish.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30-40 minutes.
- Uncover and return to the oven for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
You can peel and slice the yams a day prior to prevent oxidation. Consider adding crushed nuts for extra texture.
