Description

Delight in the rich flavors of Middle Eastern cuisine with homemade chicken shawarma, wrapped in warm pita and topped with fresh vegetables.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb chicken thighs or breasts, sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 2 tsp ground paprika
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread or wraps
  • 1/2 cup garlic sauce or tzatziki
  • Toppings: fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Marinade: In a large bowl, combine olive oil, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Marinate the Chicken: Add the sliced chicken to the marinade, ensuring each piece is coated. Cover and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Cook the Chicken: Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated chicken and sear for 5-7 minutes per side until cooked through and golden.
  4. Rest and Slice: Remove the chicken from heat, let it rest for a few minutes, then slice into strips.
  5. Assemble Your Shawarma: Lay warm chicken in pita, drizzle with garlic sauce or tzatziki, and add toppings of your choice.

Notes
