Description

A decadent chocolate sourdough bread that combines the tangy flavor of sourdough with the richness of dark chocolate, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 500g Bread Flour
  • 300g Sourdough Starter
  • 200g Water
  • 50g Cocoa Powder
  • 100g Sugar
  • 10g Salt
  • 150g Dark Chocolate (chopped)
  • Optional: Butter for Toasting

Instructions

  1. Combine the bread flour, cocoa powder, and sugar in a large mixing bowl and whisk until evenly mixed.
  2. Mix the sourdough starter with water in a separate bowl until well blended.
  3. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring gently with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for about 10-15 minutes on a floured surface until smooth and elastic.
  5. Add the salt and knead for an additional 5 minutes.
  6. Fold in the chopped dark chocolate until evenly distributed.
  7. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise at room temperature until doubled in size (4-6 hours).
  8. Punch down the dough to release air bubbles, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a prepared loaf pan.
  9. Cover the loaf again and let it rise for an additional 1-2 hours until puffed up.
  10. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C).
  11. Bake for 30-35 minutes, until it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  12. Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  13. Serve with butter or enjoy fresh.

Notes

For best results, prepare your sourdough starter the night before. Allow adequate rising time to enhance flavor development.
