- 4 large Potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold)
- 2 cups Cheese (sharp cheddar or Gruyère)
- 6 strips Bacon (cooked and crumbled or substitute with mushrooms)
- 1/2 cup Fresh Herbs (thyme, rosemary, or parsley)
- Salt and Pepper to taste
- 1/4 cup Butter
- 1 cup Cream (or whole milk)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Peel and slice the potatoes thinly—aim for about 1/8-inch thickness.
- Mix the cream or milk with salt, pepper, and your choice of chopped fresh herbs.
- Layer half of the potato slices in a greased casserole dish.
- Sprinkle half of the cheese and crumbled bacon on top of the potatoes.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, cheese, and bacon.
- Pour the cream mixture evenly over the top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
