Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb steak (such as round or sirloin)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- Oil for frying
- 2 cups milk
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (for gravy)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Tenderize the steak by placing it between plastic wrap and gently pounding it with a meat tenderizer until it’s about 1/2 inch thick.
- Prepare the coating mixture by blending the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder in a bowl.
- Dredge the steak in the seasoned flour mixture, ensuring it is thoroughly coated.
- Heat enough oil in a heavy skillet to cover the bottom, about 1/4 inch deep, over medium heat.
- Fry the coated steak for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden-brown. Drain on paper towels.
- Make the gravy by melting butter in the same skillet, whisking in 2 tbsp of flour until smooth, gradually pouring in the milk, and cooking until thickened. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve the fried steak topped with the creamy gravy.
Notes
For a healthier option, consider air frying the steak at 400°F for about 15 minutes. You can also customize the gravy with fresh herbs or mushrooms.
