Description

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Parmesan cheese for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Whisk until even.
  2. Gradually pour in the warm water and olive oil, stirring until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for one hour.
  4. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).
  5. Combine crushed tomatoes, minced garlic, and dried oregano in a saucepan over medium heat. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  6. Punch down the risen dough and spread it evenly in a greased baking pan.
  7. Pour the tomato sauce over the dough and sprinkle mozzarella cheese on top.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Cool for a few minutes before slicing into squares and serving.

Notes

For a make-ahead option, refrigerate the dough overnight after it rises. Let it return to room temperature before baking.
