Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each. Stir in vanilla and buttermilk until smooth.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices in a separate bowl.
- Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, mixing gently until just combined.
- Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla until creamy for the frosting.
- Assemble the cake by frosting between layers and the outside.
