- 1 loaf of challah or brioche bread, cubed
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
- Butter for greasing
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
- Spread the cubed bread evenly across the bottom of your prepared baking dish and arrange the sliced strawberries on top.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries, ensuring every piece is soaked.
- Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or preferably overnight.
- Bring the casserole to room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.
- Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the top is puffed and golden brown.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.
