Description

A delightful blend of custardy bread and juicy strawberries, perfect for brunch or special occasions.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of challah or brioche bread, cubed
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Butter for greasing
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and generously grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt in a large bowl.
  3. Spread the cubed bread evenly across the bottom of your prepared baking dish and arrange the sliced strawberries on top.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and strawberries, ensuring every piece is soaked.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or preferably overnight.
  6. Bring the casserole to room temperature for about 30 minutes before baking.
  7. Bake for 45–55 minutes, until the top is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving and sprinkle with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes
