Description

A delightful and easy-to-make casserole featuring custard-soaked bread and fresh strawberries, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (Challah or Brioche)
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
  • Butter for greasing the dish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare a 9×13 inch baking dish by greasing it with butter.
  3. Cube the loaf of bread into bite-sized pieces and layer half in the bottom of the dish.
  4. Layer the sliced strawberries over the bread cubes.
  5. Make the custard mixture by whisking eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon together in a bowl.
  6. Soak the bread with the custard mixture, pressing down gently.
  7. Add the remaining bread cubes and drizzle any leftover custard on top.
  8. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  9. Bake uncovered for 40–50 minutes until golden brown.
  10. Cool slightly before slicing and enjoy with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best results and consider adding other fruits or chocolate for variations.
