Description

A comforting bowl of Texas-style chili, featuring tender beef, rich tomatoes, and a medley of spices that provide an explosion of flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb cubed chuck beef
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 28 oz crushed tomatoes
  • 1 large diced onion
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: In a large pot over medium heat, add a touch of oil and brown the beef until it’s fully cooked.
  2. Sauté onions and garlic: Add the chopped onions and minced garlic, stirring until they soften.
  3. Incorporate the spices: Stir in the chili powder and cumin, letting them bloom in the heat for about a minute.
  4. Add the tomatoes: Pour in the crushed tomatoes, stirring well to combine.
  5. Simmer: Bring the mix to a gentle simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook low and slow for at least 60-120 minutes.
  6. Serve: Ladle the chili into bowls while it’s hot and garnish generously with shredded cheese and sour cream.

Notes

For deeper flavors, prepare the chili a day in advance. Adjust spices and toppings to your preference.
